Here’s what to know. This guide explains the type of work and why it can be needed. It is not a remote diagnosis or a do-it-yourself wiring tutorial.
What does this involve?
Circuits and outlets matched to the actual appliance rating and installation instructions.
How does it work?
Some appliances call for their own circuit or a receptacle with a specific voltage and current rating. A refrigerator or microwave does not automatically need a 240-volt outlet; requirements vary by model.
What affects the job?
The appliance nameplate, panel capacity, route length, and existing circuit determine what is appropriate. Never select a circuit just from the appliance category.
What should you tell us?
A picture of the existing outlet or switch, the room where it is located, and whether the problem is new or ongoing. You do not need to know the electrical terms. Tell us what you see and what you want to change.
Keep safety in mind
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s home electrical checklist explains common warning signs. For generator-related jobs, see the Electrical Safety Foundation International’s generator guidance. Any code or permit decision needs to be checked for the actual property.
Is this what you need help with?
Tell us a little about your project and where you're located. We'll confirm whether it's a job we can take on and explain the next step.
