Here’s what to know. This guide explains the type of work and why it can be needed. It is not a remote diagnosis or a do-it-yourself wiring tutorial.
What does this involve?
Rewiring hallways or large rooms so lights can be controlled from two separate doors.
How does it work?
Three-way switching lets two separate switches control the same light. It needs a suitable circuit arrangement rather than two ordinary switches wired casually together.
What affects the job?
Existing cable routes and box space affect whether a change is simple or calls for more involved wiring.
What should you tell us?
A picture of the existing outlet or switch, the room where it is located, and whether the problem is new or ongoing. You do not need to know the electrical terms. Tell us what you see and what you want to change.
Keep safety in mind
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s home electrical checklist explains common warning signs. For generator-related jobs, see the Electrical Safety Foundation International’s generator guidance. Any code or permit decision needs to be checked for the actual property.
Is this what you need help with?
Tell us a little about your project and where you're located. We'll confirm whether it's a job we can take on and explain the next step.
